Stephän Bell is the Founder and Principal of the Bell Consulting Group (BCG). The firm specializes in providing effective advocacy on behalf of clients on the both the federal and state levels of government. BCG also has provided successful fund development consulting to several national and local entities. Mr. Bell has 16 years of legislative and policy experience. He is recognized as one of Washington’s premier African American lobbyists. Politically Black.com recognized Bell as a “rising star” in 2000.
Prior to founding the Bell Group, he was Manager of Government Relations for Major League Baseball (MLB) – Office of the Commissioner. He was responsible for national and state legislative issues and policies affecting MLB and its Clubs.
Mr. Bell also held positions at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and National Farmers Union. In these positions, he was responsible for issues related to electricity restructuring, appropriations, trade, taxation, and rural development. He also lobbied Members of Congress on general agriculture and economic development issues.
Mr. Bell has worked as the Legislative Director for former U.S. Representative Earl F. Hilliard (D-AL) and served as the Legislative Assistant to former U.S. Representative Claude Harris (D-AL). As the Agriculture Representative, Bell traveled with the Congressional Staff Delegation to Taiwan to discuss economic issues with government officials.
Bell was elected in December 2002 to serve a two-year term as President of the Washington Government Relations Group, whose membership encompasses the African-American lobbyist in our Nation’s Capitol. Under his leadership, WGRG’s membership has more than doubled and eclipsed the 100-member mark for the first time in the organizations 23-year history. Bell was educated in the Birmingham Public School system and holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Criminal Justice from University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.
Mr. Bell has been recognized as “Consumers’ Best Friend” for outstanding leadership on issues related to electricity restructuring. He is a former Board Member of the Electric Consumers’ Alliance. He is a former member of the Washington Area State Relations Group, Alabama State Society and was a charter member of 100 Black Men of America, Washington, DC Chapter. Committed to community service, Mr. Bell serves as a mentor and big brother for at-risk youth and is a charter member of the Northern Virginia chapter of Concerned Black Men. He is a current core team leader for the Men’s Ministry at Destiny Metropolitan Worship Church, Atlanta, Georgia. A native of Alabama, he currently lives in Kennesaw, Georgia with his wife, Desma, daughter Summer, and son Solomon.
